Lucky 13
Today marks my 13th anniversary at the ol' Daily Bulletin. Yep, it was on March 10, 1997 that yours truly reported for work for the first time in Ontario, having moved here days earlier from Victorville and its Daily Press newspaper.
One of the best moves I ever made -- not that that was obvious at the time.

A journalist for more than two decades, David Allen has been writing a column for the

Congrats David!
Happy Anniversary!
Congratulations David! May there be another 13+ to come!
Also, happy birthday!
[You have a good memory, Ms. Lois. Yes, the birthday is Sunday. -- DA]
Congratulations, felicitations, and best wishes for your anniversary and your birthday.
You're happy to be at the DB, and we're all happy to have you there. Works out well all around.
Congrats! Is there anything tastier than a baker's dozen?!?!
Congrats David,
You will find out that, the older you get, the faster the time goes by, and before you know it, you will have been at the DB 30 years. I hope you can keep writing your DB column, that is informative and non-judgmental, with doses of adventure and humor, as long as you want.
Don't listen to Ms. Lois. I don't want to sit behind you for another 13+ years!
[You could have your seating assignment changed if it's a problem. -- DA]
I'm very happy to hear you're still here at the DB kicking! I've been reading your stuff for several years since I moved out here. Keep up the good work you do for everyone of us!
Congratulations on the anniversary. That it was a good move should have been obvious 13 years ago -- ANY move from Victorville is a good move. It was definitely a good move for readers near and farther flung.
Happy Birthday! Assuming a fabulous birthday adventure/meal, I anxiously await the report.
Congratulations! I'm glad you got promoted to Ontario from Victorville. That used to be where the Daily Report sent people for punishment back in the fifties. Glad to see that they have switched gears. Keep writing, and Happy Birthday, too.
[Thank you. To be clear, the Ontario and Victorville papers are unconnected (they have different owners) and I simply applied to the Bulletin for a job. -- DA]
Let's see now...13 years, that represents approximately 2,028 columns from you. I can't wrap my head around how many books or restaurants that represents, but it's a bunch. Congratulations! In today's world that's enough time with one company to represent retirement. After all, Congress gives lifetime benefits if you serve for only two years, don't they?
[2,028 columns? Suddenly I feel very, very tired. -- DA]
As an IVDB alumni...not that there is anything wrong with it... the two people that I really connected with and hopefully became friends with were Sara Carter and the "Man Of The Moment" himself...David Allen. I've since replaced Sara with the "Queen of RC," Wendy Leung, and look forward to a plethora of years to come.
[At least until you replace me with someone else! -- DA]
Congrats, Dave! I was there, back in the day! As a subscriber, I mean... back when I *cough* subscribed, instead of just clicking on a link... How do I get myself into these sentences?
[Never underestimate the power of guilt! But we appreciate link-clickers too. In fact, we're thinking of starting a Cash for Clickers program. (Not really.) -- DA]
Dave Barry wasn't available. And belated Happy Birthday, too. Wish the People's Republic of Cklaremont would do something for you...maybe next parade.
