A class at Sacred Heart, 1957

Sacred Heart Catholic School operated from 1949 to 1998 on the grounds of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pomona at Hamilton and Grand. The school educated up to eighth grade; students usually went on to Damien or Pomona Catholic high schools.

A reunion is scheduled for Oct. 10, 2010 at the Ebell Museum of History, 525 E. Holt Ave. For info: (909) 938-1599. The school has a Facebook page with a page of nifty photos, from which the accompanying picture was taken.

When I was about 14 I used to go to the dances they would have there at the hall. The club called the I.V.L.’s would have them. They would also have this fiesta every year to pay for the trip that the father would take. I made my holy communion there at the old church on the corner. They also made that movie Gang Wars in that same hall that I went to dances at.

My 6 brothers and sister as well as myself all went to Sacred Heart 8 years each from 1957 until I graduated in 1980. What great times, it was truly the end of an era when the school closed in 1998.

The club you mentioned, IVL’s, brought back memories. I remember we started a club called the Uniques. We were in the Pomona Christmas parade but I cannot remember the years. It may have been 1965-1967. I did even think about this until this moment. Love remembering past times and fun times.
