People assemble Thursday for the night's concert at Ganesha Park's G. Stanton Selby Bandshell by the Pomona Concert Band. More about the evening in my Sunday column. The band's website has a schedule.

The photo brings back wonderful memories. On Thursday evenings I would gather my mother, a couple of lawn chairs, and some fast food and head to the bandshell for some great music, a few laughs, relaxation, cool breezes, and conversation with Mom and those around us.

In later years, my two toddlers joined us. It was not unusual for them to fall asleep on their blanket before the final notes sounded.

Those were the days when Mr. Selby was conducting and commenting.

A few years earlier, in my high school orchestra days, I had the pleasure and honor of playing under Mr. Selby's direction.

Good times.
