The former Ellsworth’s Stationers at 2317 D St. in downtown La Verne is being replaced later this year by House of Wings.

David, it seems stationery stores have gone the way of the neighborhood hardware store. But hey, we need more wing joints, right?
[Stationery stores are no longer stationary. -- DA]

How sad! I worked at the La Verne location when it first opened, from 1979 to 1989. The Ellsworths are a great family. I know that Ralph Sr. passed away earlier this year. The Glendora location is still open, I am not sure the what the plans are for that location.

David:
It is ironic that Kurt mentioned hardware stores in the above comment. This Ellsworth’s location took the place of the La Verne Hardware store about 8 years ago.

Any indication of whether it’s opening up somewhere else?
[It closed. Nobody in 2011 is opening stationery stores, are they? -- DA]

Bad economy, “pop-up” stores, food trucks, online options to buy — even stationary stores are declining.
[Only careful spellers will get the joke. Nice one, Bob. -- DA]
