The valley holds surprises everywhere you look. For instance, this narrow storefront would seem to be the nerve center for two mighty industries. Seen on North Garey Avenue in Pomona.

(Extra credit if you know the origin of the expression referred to in the headline.)

Multiple news radio stations lead-in.

[True. It wasn't only KFWB, although that's the famous local example. That lead-in was: "Give us 22 minutes and we'll give you the world." -- DA]

I got so tired of this KFWB tagline in the 80s that I always paraphrased it as: "Give us 22 minutes and we'll give you 1320 seconds."

I always thought that it was weird that it was phrased that way as their newsblocks were in 20-minute segments. The last two minutes were the same as the first two minutes and sports was done on 15 and 45. Hmmmmm.

one of Pomona's seediest looking strip malls across from Mix bowl.

[Not even close, Andy. This is on North Garey; Mix Bowl is on South Indian Hill. But all seedy strip malls look the same. -- DA]

Hey muchachos...enough with the "seedy strip mall" reference in my beloved city. The one thing that I will never, ever understand is how did Claremont even get below the 10 Fwy? I guess there is no shame when it comes to tax dollars.
