Making it all fail

A name that's familiar, but a face that's unfamiliar, although perhaps more pleasing, adorn a book on display at Borders Books in Rancho Cucamonga last Wednesday.

With the local store set to close Tuesday, this is the closest I'll come to having a book at Borders. (The author is a well-known productivity expert.) The business-failure signs in the background of this optimistic tome are a nice, ironic touch. Seen and shot by my colleague Wendy Leung.

One of the protagonists from the film Plunkett and Macleane shares my namesake, too. But since it wasn't widely released, it was tough to find a copy of it. No __% off sales.

Note: I stopped by on Sunday, and a paper sign on the window said they were closed as of Saturday. Peering through the doors showed almost nothing inside, so I guess, why be open then?

[I went by Saturday afternoon and found plenty of shoppers and almost no merchandise. It was amazing how much difference there had been in 48 hours since my Thursday visit. Doesn't surprise me to hear they closed up early. -- DA]
