Birthday to me

It was 48 years ago today that I came into this world. Just think of all the marvels I’ve witnessed: the moon landings, microwave ovens, MTV, culottes, specialty coffee, Tide sticks, oversharing, the list goes on and on. Today is a typical workday for me, but maybe I’ll get a slice of chocolate cake at Nancy’s or a $1 cone at Handel’s or something.

Happy Birthday from a fellow Pisces. The cone sounds like a good choice.

  • Bob House

    . . . and many m-o-o-o-o-r-e! I thought you were a pie guy?

[I am, but my usual Wednesday lunch spot has cake, not pie. — DA]

Birthday wishes to mild mannered reporter David Allen by day, superhero “Column Boy” by night. Super powers include an iron stomach, the uncanny ability to withstand prolonged exposure to political windbags and other forms of toxic scum, and having the only known form of insomnia incurable by the tedium of attending local city council meetings.

Incidentally, when Column Boy grows up, does he evolve into Article Man?

[Or Particle Man (TMBG reference). — DA]

Happy Birthday! Aren’t you supposed to have cake AND ice cream on your birthday?

[I suppose I could get the cake to go on a plate, take it to Handel’s and ask for my $1 scoop on the side. — DA]

  • JMac

Happy Birthday David! You realize that today is Pi Day don’t you?

[I realize it now. — DA]

  • Ramona

Happy, happy, David. I’m toasting you (again). Only ice water since I don’t indulge but the good wishes are there.

Cake? Pie? Ice Cream? It’s all good and calorie-free since it’s your birthday.

Happy Birthday David enjoy your day

Happy Birthday, David. We all hate to add those extra numbers, to our age, but it’s great to have an excuse, to feel special, and treat ourselves accordingly, at least one day, out of each year. Today, I will be at Handels, too, after the usual Wednesday movie, at the Laemmle. I don’t suppose we will be there at the same time, but if we are, I will gladly pay your dollar too. Don’t forget–the butter pecan is to die for!

  • Lynn Derrick

Happy Birthday…!!! I would do the chocolate cake at Nancy’s…!!!

  • Annette G

Happy Birthday to my hometown blogger! Thank you for sharing yourself and your musings here with us. And LOL at listing “culottes” among the marvels you’ve witnessed!

  • Ms. Lois

Happy birthday, David. It’s funny that I can remember your birthday is somewhere in March but I can never remember the day. We’ll see how I do next year!

[I’m grateful simply to be remembered, period! — DA]

  • Another Lois

The coulotte comment has me giggling. Put on a pair and celebrate in style!

[It might clash with my Members Only jacket. — DA]

  • hugh.c.mcbride

    Happy birthday, Mr. A!

I was all prepared to make a wacky coulotte comment, but the combination of Another Lois beating me to the proverbial punch plus the indelible mental image of you blowing out the candles whilst clad in culottes & matching Members Only jacket convinced me that there’s nothing I could add that would improve upon what’s already been expressed here on that topic.

So, I’ll just wish you a grand day today, & offer my heartfelt hope that your next 48 are even more fun & fulfilling than the previous 48 have been!

[You’ve got me looking forward to 49, not to mention 96. Thanks, Hugh. Btw, you might want to investigate the new Magnetic Fields CD. Key track: “I’d Go Anywhere With Hugh.” — DA]

  • Kristin McConnell

Happy birthday! I hope you did something fun–besides writing your funny-as-ever column! 🙂 Hugs!

[I did. Had dinner in Eagle Rock at Oinkster with a friend. Good stuff. — DA]

  • Will Plunkett

David Allen has birthdays on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, plus four other days of the week. Enjoy this one however you wish, sir!

  • Andy

    Happy Birthday

  • Hope you had a great birthday and that you’ll have many, many more.

  • Doug Evans

Oh… and happy birthday! I said so on facebook but meant to do the same here. Six days late, and the blog post is off the main page… but still counts!! I hope? Last year I gave two six-months-late birthday cards to a couple of friends… By that reckoning, six days is an improvement! Hope you enjoyed your day, and as Hugh and others have said above, here’s to the next 48!

[Doug, it’s never too late to wish someone a happy birthday. Although six months might be pushing it. — DA]
