Column: ’20 Feet From Stardom,’ but getting closer

Claudia Lennear was one of the backup singers featured in the documentary “20 Feet From Stardom,” which won the Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary earlier in March. Back in the day, she sang with the greats. These days she lives in Pomona and teaches at Mt. San Antonio College. We sat down for an interview about her life and career for Friday’s extra-length, Page One (!) column.

Page 1 above the fold. WOW! You’ve hit the big time :-) .

A story worth waiting for! It’s good to read about someone who had a good career, didn’t burn out on drugs, and has made a happy life after the insanity of the 70s. Made my day!

Your “first pager” certainly did not disappoint! Great writing about a marvelous woman. I especially appreciated the details you got that aren’t available to us otherwise. Nice to see good news about a good Pomona person.

So Mister Funny Guy, your true journalistic coming-of-age(50) has finally blossomed. All kidding aside, it was an outstanding story/profile and Claudia seems to love her “adopted” hometown of Pomona. Just wondering if they settled on my south side of town or the north side. I hope this article gets picked up across the states because it seems Darlene Love gets all the accolades but there were so many more involved. Great job, Scoop!

I think her family was on the south side, but she’s now on the north side. Movin’ on up? Also, she’s about 20 feet from Claremont.
