Column: Upland leaders may further roil City Hall

Items in Sunday’s column begin with a preview of Monday’s Upland council meeting in which the city manager’s fate appears to be the subject of two closed-door meetings. After that: Culture Corner and Valley Vignette items, an update on my Hitchcock film series, a plug for this blog and my reactions to a listing of the 10 Most Boring Places in California that includes Ontario.

Will the $4.75 million insurance settlement from an Upland insurer bail the city out of crisis? The story appeared Saturday’s paper.

We’ll be looking into that. My first reaction is that this one-time boost helps rebuild Upland’s piggy bank and takes some of the pressure off, but Upland still can barely balance its annual budget, can’t fill Police Dept. jobs, repair streets, etc.

The Council will probably spend it all again on irrelevant items. The fiscally irresponsible will hail again.
