Column: Speakers Corner offers people a platform, literally

Perhaps the most unusual Independence Day activity locally is the Speakers Corner in Claremont, meant to celebrate the First Amendment. Wednesday’s column starts with a few words about that, followed by two culinary items with Chino Valley connections, an update on an old-time journalist mentioned here recently and a note that I’m on vacation.

What could be more Claremontesque than a place to shoot off your mouth and have citizens listen politely? Although it’s good to know there’s still some old-time Claremont around when seeing more entries in the Courier’s Police Blotter monthly than were reported in all of the 50s and 60s. I was going to say a few words at the Corner, but my rule is “no nudity,” no Bob.

“No nudity” and “honesty” are the best policies, Bob.
