Column: Gold would eat anything, but not in the 909

Friday’s column pays tribute to food critic Jonathan Gold, who died last month and who will be the subject of a public memorial event Sunday. He had a big impact on Glendora’s Donut Man. But sadly, he appears never to have reviewed an Inland Valley restaurant.

I saw the documentary at the Laemmle and did take notice that Mr. Gold seemed to prefer Chinese-type food above all other food. Recently I had wondered about the immense popularity of “Samanuang” in Claremont–it is packed with diners compared to other Asian-type ethnic food establishment in the area that are in better locations. Now I know why that is–I think.

I tried Samanluang in Claremont with the folks, wasn’t impressed . Seemed very average and loud for a early Sunday 4 o’ clock dinner. Panda Inn is more up my alley
