Column: Is IKEA eyeing Ontario? Hints are building

The audience at Tuesday’s Ontario council meeting got a possible scoop as a slide of a planned freeway-visible sign for a big-box store showed the name IKEA. It’s likely to happen, city officials tell me. Also: cultural notes and more, all in Friday’s column.

IKEA was previously in the Inland Empire for about 5 years in the mid 1990’s. At that time they had a large store in their typical style at the far east end of the Target Greatland shopping center located at Slover and Sierra in Fontana. That store was built to their specifications. After they left the space was vacant for a few years and then Kaiser Pernamente moved in some years ago and has used it for administrative offices.

I remember the store. Thanks for the background, location and present-day update.
