Column: Throwing some shade on the ‘dimmer switch’

Dimmer switches are in the news almost anytime the governor gives a press conference, since they’re his favorite analogy for California’s open status. He toggled the dial again this week. I poke a little fun in Friday’s column.

I saw Newsom speak for candidate Jerry Brown at a rally at the Central Library in 2010–I was about 20 feet from him. He had run for Governor himself and had lost the nomination to Brown. He was there for Brown and he had a powerful voice. He persisted and deservedly became Governor of CA in 2019. Now, If you look closely at him on the TV screen during his briefings, you can see eyes that are not getting enough sleep. The man is worn down! I decry all the “haters” who can’t give a man credit for doing his job “waaay above and beyond” just because he is from the opposite party.
