Column: Taking roll of his K-6 teachers, one by one

I recall random things about my kindergarten through sixth grade teachers, the ones who set me off on a strong footing in life, in Friday’s column. Hail, elementary school teachers! Photo that appears with the column is of my fourth-grade class. As a bonus for you blog readers, above is my third-grade class. Can you spot me?

Were you wearing glasses in third grade?

I was! I wore them briefly in first grade and my eyes improved. Second grade, no glasses. Third grade I got glasses — for good.

That would have been my second guess.

I got them in first grade and my eyes went downhill from there. It had a huge (negative) affect on my self-esteem.

Awww. My parents wore (and wear) glasses and so wearing glasses seemed natural to me, I guess.
