Quinn Harris has had a lively, unusual career in music that included a self-released album in 1975 that went nowhere. Unexpectedly, it’s been reissued by a hipster record label in L.A. with Harris’ permission and called a “classic.” I sit down with Harris in his home near Riverside for a chat for my Dec. 11 column.

Column: First mayor of RC departs city he helped found
It’s rare that you get to talk to the first mayor of a city, at least without the aid of a spirit medium, but I was able to sit down recently with Jim Frost, who led Rancho Cucamonga from 1977-1980. He talks about his family’s roots in Etiwanda and the incorporation of Rancho Cucamonga in my Dec. 9 column.
Column: Oh, snap! Upland’s Big U sign toppled in 1966
The saga of downtown Upland’s Big U sign, a column topic in May, is revisited with more, y’know, facts and dates and such, including a couple of startling photos, in my Dec. 6 column.
Blog down (sigh)
Column: Desert link to ‘Citizen Kane’ is a Route 66 ‘Rosebud’
I decide a year late to do something on a Route 66 book lingering on my desk and discover a way to tie in one entry to a new movie, while also plucking other entries of interest to our region. I also attend a press conference in San Bernardino. All the above makes up my Dec. 4 column.
Column: Zappa’s Cucamonga years included in new documentary
A new documentary, “Zappa,” explores the life and career of the musician and activist, and his Inland Valley years are not excluded (although it helps if you know what to look for). I draw some fresh tidbits from the movie and write about them in Wednesday’s column, along with a related curio: a book about odds by Zappa’s father.
