Man shot in Hawthorne

A man was shot as he stood on a Hawthorne street Tuesday night, police said.

The incident occurred about 7:40 p.m. at Rosecrans and Cordary Avenue, said Hawthorne police Detective Chris Port.

The man was shot twice in the chest and was taken to a nearby hospital, Port said. His name was not released.

"We're not sure he's going to make it," Port said.

Police did not know the motive for the shooting late Tuesday, and there were few witnesses, Port said.

The gunman may have approached the victim on foot, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
