ALERT: Waterspout near Manhattan Beach could become tornado

MANHATTAN BEACH -- The National Weather Service has warned of a strong thunderstorm associated with a possible waterspout near Manhattan Beach that could become a tornado and impact south Los Angeles County.

The storm was being tracked Wednesday afternoon about 10 miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles as it moved at about 25 mph to the northeast.

Meteorologists said the storm could produce localized damage with hail, gusts to 50 mph, heavy
rain and lightning.
