Off-Duty LAPD cop exchanges gunfire with would-be robbers in Torrance, intersection of Carson and Cabrillo closed to traffic

| | Comments (0)
An exchange of gunfire erupted in Old Torrance about 2:30 a.m. Saturday when two men apparently attempted to rob an off-duty LAPD officer from the Wilshire Division, according to Torrance Police Chief Joh Neu, who said he was notified of the incident at home early this morning. The pair remain at large and a police chopper was seen circling the area this morning,

No one was hurt, but LAPD detectives have closed the intersection of Carson Street and Cabrillo Avenue, where the incident occurred, while they conduct an investigation. It's unclear how long the intersection will be closed to traffic; the LAPD officers on-scene are not authorized to talk to the media.

BTW, in an unrelated traffic snarl the traffic lights at Torrance and Hawthorne boulevards are out (again) and crews from Southern California Edison are working to fix the problem. Traffic in the area is a mess, so motorists should avoid the area, police said.

Updated 1:30 p.m.
Torrance Police said LAPD have concluded their investigation and the intersection Cabrillo Avenue and Carson Street is now open to traffic.
