Cutting down on carbs.

Dieting's a drag when it comes to cutting out food favorites and decident desserts, but cutting carbs are getting easier every day.
Cutting out carbons that is.

Here are some Carbon Diet suggestions from GoGreen:

Below is more detailed information about the carbon reduction impact of each of the five steps:

1. Get Real About Recycling - Maybe a few people in the family consistently use the recycle bin, but does everyone? And does everyone really recycle different types of waste including newspapers, glass, plastics and aluminum? Families can start to trim more pounds by encouraging taking that extra step of consistently recycling everyday household items like newspapers, glass containers, plastics and aluminum cans. Over the course of a year, the Environmental Project Agency (EPA) estimates that recycling these items alone will reduce the household emissions for a typical family of four by an average of 1,600 pounds*.

CO2 Avoided: 1,600 pounds [Down to 66,800 pounds per year]

2. Take it Down a Degree - or Three - Challenge your family to focus on small changes around the house. In a typical household, turning down the heat by just three degrees at night during the winter can save approximately 140 pounds* of carbon emissions per year. During the summer months, your family can shed another 160 pounds* by turning up the thermostat on your air conditioning by just three degrees.

CO2 Avoided: 300 pounds [Down to 66,500 pounds per year]

3. Swap for CFLs and Save - By swapping just 10 traditional light bulbs (typically 75-watt incandescent light bulbs) with more energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), a typical household can not only shave off 1,000 pounds* of carbon dioxide emissions per year, but also save money on electricity bills. With new technology, CFLs are brighter and produce a purer light, making the adjustment even easier. And many utilities and energy companies now offer programs for easy recycling and disposal of these types of bulbs.

CO2 Avoided: 1,000 pounds [Down to 65,500 pounds per year]

4. Skip a Trip - By cutting down on just two 30 mile trips (such as the roundtrip drive to work) each month, an individual can avoid approximately 770 pounds* of carbon emissions, while also saving money on gas. Either by carpooling with a coworker twice a month, using public transportation or simply combining a few short trips into one, anyone can easily shave off 60 miles per month.

CO2 Avoided: 770 pounds [Down to 64,730 pounds per year]
