Loma Linda fresh & easy delayed...again

First it was November, then it was January, now it's anybody's guess.

According to this story on The Sun's Web site, the opening of the Loma Linda fresh & easy has been pushed back to who knows when, due to the shriveling economy.

The building at the corner of Mountain View Avenue and Redlands Boulevard is complete and ready to be stocked (it appeared that way when I drove by last year), but there's no telling when it will open.

Spokesman Brendan Wonnacott indicated that they generally don't announce new store openings until about a month prior, which means the Loma Linda store won't open until late February at the earliest.

Also in opening-date limbo are stores in Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario and the two stores in Rialto, not to mention planned openings in Mira Loma, Pedley, Riverside, Moreno Valley, Calimesa, Beaumont, Corona, Menifee and Lake Elsinore.

Stay tuned to Dine 909 for more updates.

It's a shame. The thing that's odd to me is that I think that this particular location will do well for them. You would think that they would want to open and start making some money. The company is still hiring...they've currently got openings in Riverside, Rancho Cucamonga and Corona, so things are rolling along. Just a little slower than some of us would like.

Searching their Web site offers no information other than "Coming soon," however, there may be movement. They''ve posted a job opening for store manager in the Inland Empire area. The stores in Loma Linda, Moreno Valley and Rialto have completed construction, so it's likely for one of those. We haven't heard anything official, though.

Did a quick drive-by tonight (March 11) and the lights were on and nobody was home. The building and parking lot look complete, but the store itself is nothing but empty shelves. What a shame.

It's been way longer than a year, and in that time, the Rialto store, the San Bernardino store, the Ontario store and the two stores in Rancho Cucamonga have all been built and opened.

The Calimesa store, 1126 Calimesa Blvd., will open Wednesday (March 27) and a second Ontario store, 2275 S. Euclid Ave., will open April 7.

However, still no word on the Loma Linda store. Officials from fresh & easy are eternally tight-lipped on when the long-completed store will open.

If it makes you feel any better, the third Moreno Valley store, 22985 Cottonwood Ave., is in the same situation. Completed for what seems like an eternity, but still not open.

If I happen to hear anything, I'll post it.
