Baskin-Robbins + Fondue = Mmm!

Sometimes Dine 909 does venture out of the Inland Empire.

In this case, we traveled to Old Town Pasadena to take a friend out to lunch for her birthday. We decided on Mi Piace, an excellent Italian restaurant and bakery that I’ve been going to for over a dozen years.

We got a parking spot on Colorado Boulevard, across from Mi Piace and in front of Baskin-Robbins.

When we got out of the car, we noticed that the ice cream shop had a sign in the window advertising ice cream fondue.

As we were discussing coming back to Baskin-Robbins for dessert, one of the employees was coming out of the store to go on his break and overheard our conversation. He stopped and we asked him about the fondue.

He told us they were one of only two locations (the other being a Cafe 31 in Foxborough, MA) in the U.S. to have fondue.

That sealed the deal.

So, after our excellent meal at Mi Piace and a brief walk around Old Town Pasadena, we returned to the Baskin-Robbins for our fondue.

The fondue is of the chocolate variety, and the dipping “bits” consist of ice cream, cake, brownies and fresh fruit.

On the ice cream side, there was four small scoops each of Oreo Cookies and Cream, Chocolate, Strawberry, Mint Chocolate Chip, Strawberry and Gold Medal Ribbon.

On the other side were banana slices, diced strawberries and cubes of both white cake and brownies.

The whole thing costs $12.99.

The treat is only available in two spots here in the U.S., but is widely available in BR Cafes in South Korea and in the Middle East.

And how was it?

Delicious, of course!

The chocolate fondue — if you can leave it on the ice cream long enough before stuffing it in your mouth — hardens up and creates an ice cream bonbon.

The strawberries and the bananas were perfectly ripe and freshly sliced.

I thought the three of us would have a tough time wolfing down on all those sweets, but we managed!

Would I order it again?

Heck, just writing this is making me crave it again. I’m ready to drive out there right now!

So, if you happen to be in Old Town Pasadena and you’re looking for dessert, my suggestion is to bypass the Cheesecake Factory, Pinkberry and 21 Choices and head into Baskin-Robbins for a West Coast exclusive.

The Old Town Pasadena Baskin-Robbins is at 60 E. Colorado Blvd.
