Honeybaked Cafe fades away

I know this is months-old news for some of you, but in writing my post on the recently-closed Rancho Cucamonga Mels’ Drive-in, I thought of the Honeybaked Cafe at Ontario Mills.

(Actually, I think it was officially dubbed the “Honeybaked and Cafe,” which kind of bugged me.)

I’d been there a handful of times and had good meals, but hadn’t gone there in a long while and got to wondering if it was still in business.

Turns out it’s not.

It closed late May/early June of this year, if the comments on Yelp are any indication.

A drive-by this week confirmed the closure — in fact, crews were inside prepping the location for its next incarnation.

That location was unique in that in addition to selling their spiral-sliced hams (and other goodies), they also had a small cafe off to the side.

The food I had there was good, but I had the sneaking suspicion that not much cooking was going on in the kitchen, other than taking an entre out of the freezer and popping it in the oven.

I could be wrong.

Of course, they also had sandwiches that were obviously freshly prepared.

It was also a kind of midwestern-y in that they had wooden peg puzzles and other games to play while you waited.

I’m a little sad that they are gone. It was like they were the only one of their kind and now there are none.
