Dress like a cow, get free chicken

It’s upon us again, but you Chick-fil-A fans already knew that, didn’t you?

Today (July 8) is Cow Appreciation Day, when the chicken chain encourages customers to dress like a bovine in exchange for free food.

Those who dress head to, um, hoof as a cow get a free meal consisting of an entre (sandwich, wrap, nuggets, chicken salad sandwich or chicken strips), medium waffle fries and medium beverage.

Those who dress just partially like a cow get a free entre (same as above).

They even make it easy on you, offering an online kit you can print out to start your costume.

Inland Empire Freestyle list grows by two

It’s not like it’s required or anything, but I happened to find a Coca-Cola Freestyle while on a recent vacation in the Bay Area.

Then, on my return, I was checking the Coca-Cola Freestyle map, and I found a new pair of new machines here in the Inland Empire!

One’s at Gary’s Gourmet, 5225 Canyon Crest Dr., Suite 94, Riverside. The other is right here in San Bernardino, at Surfer Joe’s, 251 E. Redlands Blvd.

Want to have a hand in helping create one of Hangar 24 Craft Brewery’s beers?

Then head on over to the apricot pitting party which started at noon at the brewery, 1710 Sessums Drive in Redlands.

They need 2400 pounds of fruit to produce their annual summer brew, Polycot, which will be released at the end of the month.

So if you’re doing anything for the next five or six hours, why not head on over and join the pity pitting party?

Oh, thank Heaven! There’s a new 7-Eleven in my neighborhood

There’s a new 7-Eleven in your neighborhood, if your neighborhood happens to be north San Bernardino.

The convenience store just opened up at 3993 Sierra Way (at 40th Street).

They’re having a grand opening from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday (July 9), with a Slurpee drinking contest at 12:30 p.m. and a hot dog eating contest at 1:30 p.m.

An official ribbon-cutting will be held at noon.

They’re also promising face painting, free Slurpees, raffles and giveaways, live bands performance by the West Coast School of Rock, DJs from PWR FM, 50 hot dogs, a clown and Laker Girls.

Just don’t get brain freeze!

Update: This 7-Eleven has gone green! This location has the chain’s first electric car charging station. The event will include the Nissan Leaf electric car.

What?!?

Fried Chicken Day hasn’t gone international yet?

Nevertheless, Southern California KFCs are celebrating today (July 6) by offering a coupon to get 8 pieces of their fried chicken for $4.99.

You know the drill. The coupon is good at participating locations only, and is valid today only.

Print it. Use it. Eat it.

Five Guys targets the High Desert

I happened to do a check of Five Guys Burgers and Fries’ locations map earlier this week and discovered something.

In addition to previously-known planned locations in San Bernardino, Moreno Valley, Mira Loma and Corona, they’ve also listed two future restaurants in the High Desert.

One is in Victorville, at 15655 Roy Rogers Drive. The other is in Hesperia, at 12795 Main St.

Both are set to be open 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

Both are right off the 15 Freeway.

No word on a time frame for when they will open. Five Guys typically waits until restaurants’ opening days before announcing them via Twitter and Facebook.
