L.A. County Fair food truck festival is Sunday

Food trucks were a part of last year’s L.A. County Fair, but only on weekends, and only two (or three, if you were lucky) food trucks were parked at the fair.

This year, there are four trucks that will be at the fair every day: Calbi, Crepes Bonaparte, Brats Berlin and Piaggio.

In addition, there are a baker’s dozen of trucks that will be joining them on weekends: Macho Nacho Truck, Temaki, Chunk ‘N Chip Cookies, Paradise Cookies and Ice Cream, The Hungry Nomad, Tornado Potato, Uncle Lau’s Island BBQ, Fresh Fries, Flavor Rush, Gourmet Genie, Bite Me Foods, The Gourmet Sausage Co., The Yummy One.

On Sunday (September 11), 31 food trucks (including most of the above trucks) are scheduled to be at the fair’s food truck festival from noon to 5 p.m. in the grandstand infield.

Follow the jump to see the list of scheduled trucks at Sunday’s event.

Downtown San Bernardino In-N-Out on the move

I’ve been noticing a flurry of construction at the corner of Fifth and H streets in downtown San Bernardino, where the Paradise Motel once stood.

Naturally, I was curious as to what was being built there.

The answer came this week as a sign went up indicating that it was the home of a new In-N-Out Burger.

Construction is moving fast and furious on the new location.

The plan is to move in to the new location n out of the current downtown location, 190 Bungalow Court, a mere three blocks south of the new one. In-N-Out hasn’t set a date for the relocation.

The relocation came as kind of a surprise, since the planned (and highly anticipated) Highland and Rialto locations remain untouched.

Sade gets her own signature drink

Heading to the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario tonight (September 4) to check out Sade and John Legend?

Citizens Business Bank Arena has concocted a one-night-only beverage especially for tonight”s event: A “flirtatious fusion” they’ve dubbed the Smooth Operator Sangria.

If you”re lucky enough to be catching the show tonight, you can order the unique drink when you get to the arena.

The rest of us can still raise a glass in honor of Sade”s silky sounds.

Just take freshly muddled orange, lemon and lime, and top it with red wine and a lemon twist.

Mmm…talk about your sweetest taboo…

So long Millie’s, and thanks for all the chorizo and egg bowls

Sad news for fans of Millie’s Restaurant & Bakery.

The Fontana Millie’s, formerly at 17039 Valley Blvd., has closed.

The restaurant has a couple of signs posted inside the front window saying that the location is permanently closed and to visit the Millie’s in Covina, nearly 30 miles away.

That leaves the only Inland Empire Millie’s in Hemet, at 2020 E. Florida Ave.

I have an odd story about Millie’s.

A while back, I cleaned some viruses off my aunt’s computer, and as payment, she asked where I liked to eat so that she could get me some gift certificates.

At the time, I was kind of on a Mimi’s Cafe kick, so that’s what I told her.

She got things a little mixed up and I ended up with gift certificates to Millie’s.

Let’s just say that I got to know the Riverside and Fontana locations for a while.

Of course, they’re both closed now, which makes me a little sad.

Thanks to reader Steve, who emailed us to let us know about the closure.

L.A. County Fair Food previewed

Dine 909 was among a select group of participants to preview food selections from this year’s L.A. County Fair.

Yum!

What did we sample?

Chicken Charlie’s, of course, whose new creations for this year are FryBQ Ribs and Totally Fried Kool Aid.

Then there were the food trucks. On hand were Calbi, Piaggio and Crepes Bonaparte.

We also got to sample from Big Bubba’s Bad to the Bone BBQ, Old Tyme Ice Cream Bars, Kokopelli’s Indian Fry Bread, Thai BBQ and South of the Border.

The verdict?

You will not be disappointed.
