Happy Trails chili cook-off today in Apple Valley

The Rotary Club of Apple Valley is hosting the 10th Annual Happy Trails Chili Cook-off, presented by Valley-Hi Toyota Scion and Victorville Motors, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today (October 22) at the Lenny Brewster Sports Center is at 21024 Otoe Road, Apple Valley.

In addition to chili tastin’, the event will feature live music by Main Stream Band, a kids’ area with a bounce house, a car show and horseshoe tournament.

Over 40 cooks will compete in the International Chili Society sanctioned cook-off, with the winner qualifying for the World Championships to be held in West Virginia in 2012.

There will also be other food vendors, as well as a beer garden.

The best chili selection will be between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Tickets are $5 per adult, with kids 10 and under free, if they are not tasting. Paid admission includes a tasting kit with ballots to vote for the People’s Choice as well as best Community Cook, featuring local non-profits, businesses and individuals.

The event is the largest annual fundraiser for the Apple Valley Rotary Club. All funds are used to support schoolchildren in the community, include providing a reading book to every kindergartner in the district and a dictionary to every third-grader.
