Free biscuit day Wednesday at Carl’s Jr.

Well, according to this press release, Carl’s Jr. is celebrating the recent addition of Hardee’s biscuits to the menu of many (but not all…see below) of its Southern California locations by giving away biscuit sandwiches on Wednesday (November 16).

Dine-in customers in the Inland Empire (plus Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura counties) can receive a free sausage biscuit during breakfast hours (generally 6 to 10:30 a.m.).

Of course, there are caveats.

First, not all restaurants are equipped to bake biscuits yet. Click here to see which locations near you are offering them. For instance, only two of the four Carl’s in San Bernardino are. Downtown yes, uptown no. (Update: The map icons may not be up-to-date. The location nearest work — on University Parkway — is advertising the biscuits, even though the map indicates they don’t have them yet. Sigh.)

Next, the usual: One per customer, while supplies last.

I tried one of Carl’s Monster Biscuits this morning, in fact, and it was pretty decent. It comes with ham, sausage, two kinds of cheese, two layers of egg and bacon between the two halves of the biscuit.

It lived up to its name and was very filling…more than I usually eat for breakfast.

I also tried the biscuits and gravy, which is basically just a biscuit with a container of gravy. However, I was surprised at how good the gravy was. I’ve had way worse. A plus: The gravy was still steaming hot by the time I got home from the restaurant, which was about a 10 minute drive from my house.

Also, right now, they’re offering two sausage, egg and cheese biscuits for $2, which is a pretty decent deal.

Also on the menu: Bacon, egg and cheese biscuits; ham, egg and cheese biscuits; and strawberry biscuits.

Prices start at around a buck for the strawberry biscuit and about $1.70 for the single-meat biscuit sandwiches. Combos, which include hash brown nuggets and coffee, orange juice or soda, start at around $3.

Carl’s is hoping this will perk up their breakfast sales. I was pretty pleased with what I had for breakfast this morning…they’re definitely on my radar now.
