Corner Bakery Cafe wants to make your holidays sweeter

Last week, the marketing folks at Corner Bakery Cafe reached out to Dine 909 and made us an offer we couldn’t refuse: We get free fresh-baked holiday treats to review and then one lucky Dine 909er gets the exact same treats to share with friends and family.

Free goodies? And free goodies for a reader? Count us in!

What we got was three items from the chain’s holiday catering menu: A cinnamon creme cake, a tray of red velvet whoopee pies and a tray of baby bundt cakes (chocolate, red velvet and gingerbread pumpkin).

It so happened that Thursday was our holiday dinner here at The Sun, so I arranged to pick up the goodies at the Rancho Cucamonga location for that day.

When I went to pick up the treats, the restaurant was swamped! However, I just stepped over to the phone pick-up area and was helped right away. Thanks, Jamie!

Of course, with all those goodies, I needed help in reviewing ’em! So I quickly typed up a review sheet, set the goodies in our conference room, and right after lunch, started inviting folks to come taste and review.

Follow the jump to see what they had to say…and to find out how you can get the same treats for free!

Cinnamon creme cake

John Weeks, Features Editor: “The crunchy top layer gives this just the right combination of soft and chewy. I want to try the rum-soaked version of this!”

Robert Cooper, Ad Services: “Very good. Excellent cinnamon taste. Moist.”

Joyce in Production: “Very moist. Good cinnamon flavor. Would order this.”

Red velvet whoopee pies

Barb in Pre-press: “My first whoopee pie. Really good. Not usually a fan of red velvet, but this was good. Tasted more like chocolate than red dye.”

Lori Thomas in Pre-press: “My favorite. Best red velvet I’ve had and the cream filling was yummy, too.”

Chocolate baby bundt bite

Brenda Walker in Production: “Very moist. Yummy.”

Nancy Paisley in Pre-press: “Texture is light and airy. Not too sweet. I enjoyed this. Great size.”

Frank Pine, Executive Editor: “Chocolatey, moist, not too heavy. Perfect complement to an afternoon cup of coffee.”

Gingerbread pumpkin baby bundt bite

Barb in Pre-press: “My favorite! Not too sweet. Loved the spicy flavor…tasted of the holidays.”

Lori Thomas in Pre-press: “Love it. Strong gingerbread flavor. Very tasty.”

Red velvet baby bundt bite

Theresa in IT: “Very moist. Not too sweet. Needs a little more icing, but still good.”

And what did I think? I thought it was all good, with the whoopee pies taking the crown. All the baked goods were very fresh and moist. I loved the cream cheese icing in the whoopee pies.

The cinnamon creme cake was my second favorite. The only problem being that I ended up taking too big of a slice. A little of the cinnamon creme cake goes a long way. It’s very rich.

The bundt cakes were just right. Not too heavy. Not too sweet. Just the right amount of flavor.

The prices are reasonable for what you get. The cinnamon creme cake, for example, is $19.99, which comes out to about a dollar a pound…just kidding! A tray of 20 baby bundt bites will set you back $19, and a tray of 16 whoopee pies costs $25.

Prices for baked goods range from $16 for a tray of 40 mini cookies to $68 for a 48-piece sweets basket, so there’s something for every budget.

But one lucky Dine 909er will receive three holiday catering items to share with family and friends, thanks to the generosity of the folks at Corner Bakery Cafe.

The combination of the chicken with the provolone cheese, sundried tomatoes, and pesto spread is amazing!!! What I love most about them is when I am on a lunch budget I can go buy a baget and get some butter and jam and I have something to snack on all day for under $2.00

  6. A good sandwich requires fresh ingredients. You can count on Corner Bakery to serve you a great sandwich.
