Food trucks came a hair closer to operating in San Bernardino on a more regular basis today at the county’s planning commission meeting.
The commission approved a change to the county’s land development code in regards to food truck operations.
What this change does is allow for two specific types of food truck events in unincorporated county areas.
One is a major event (over 500 people in attendance) and the other is a minor event (less than 500 people in attendance).
Both types of events require a food truck event permit, which covers the site at which the event will be held.
Both require a $596 land use services fee annually and a plan outlining such details at food truck locations, trash disposal, restroom locations, lighting, structure and tent locations, fire prevention, and parking and access information.
Minor events would undergo certification from county planning and fire departments. Major events would, obviously, need to be reviewed by more agencies, such as county public works, the Bureau of Land Management, California Highway Patrol, the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control or the Inland Counties Emergency Medical Agency, depending on the circumstances.
Major events are limited to four events per parcel year (an event running Saturday and Sunday is counted as one event), whereas minor events could occur daily.
But then there are community events, which can incorporate food trucks in their festivities.
Confused?
So was the commission.
