fresh & easy addresses news reports

The folks at fresh & easy have sent out an email to its “friends” addressing news reports regarding the future of the neighborhood markets.

The email states that the chain has no plans for closing stores and that they are still open for business and planning for the future, whatever that brings.

The chain is awaiting a “strategic review” from parent company Tesco.

Pacific Western Bank’s annual food drive on through February 28

For the third year, Pacific Western Bank is hosting a food drive for Inland Valley Hope Partners.

Eight branches (five of which are in the Inland Empire) are participating: Corona, Claremont, Covina, Glendora, Irwindale, Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario and Upland.

The bank has set a goal to collect 500 food items per location. Last year it collected three tons of food, which helped feed about 150 families for a week.

Since 1968, Inland Valley Hope Partners has provided food, shelter and supportive services to children and families in need. It provides close to 70,000 pounds of food every month, so your donations are definitely needed.

If you would like to host a food drive at your company please call Fran Robertson at Inland Valley Hope Partners 909-622-3806x 231.

Heading to LA/Ontario International Airport? You might want to pack a lunch

LA/Ontario International Airport has never been a culinary hotbed, but it just got a little bit worse.

The Applebee’s in Terminal 2 (AeroMexico, Alaska/Horizon, Continental, Delta, Great Lakes and United/United Express) has closed, “temporarily.”

That narrows your food choices in that terminal down to El Paseo Cafe & Bar, Schlotzsky’s Deli and The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

Our suggestion: Leave early and stop at In-N-Out on the way to the airport.

Bottles of Extra Red are available at the brewery, 1315 Research Drive, and will be available at specialty stores in the near future.

Ritual also recently released its limited-edition Hellion, Ritual’s take on a Belgian-style Golden Ale. It’s also available at the brewery, at specialty stores and apparently at The Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch.

Cal State San Bernardino expands food truck offerings

Cal State University San Bernardino has been hosting food trucks for a while now, and they must be popular, because the school is expanding the number of days the trucks will be on campus from two to four days a week.

The school is also adding an Inland Empire-based truck, Pearson’s Louisiana Cajun, to the mix.

Returning are Calbi BBQ and Crepes Bonaparte.

The trucks park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the Coyote Bookstore (just to the left of the main University Parkway entrance).

The trucks are open to all, but you’ll need a parking permit to visit them, or risk getting ticketed. A one-hour pass can be had for $2.

Head over the jump for the new schedule.

Oscar Mayer Wienermobile coming to Highland Walmart this weekend

Perhaps you missed your opportunity to “ketchup” with the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile to get a wiener whistle when it was in San Bernardino for the Route 66 Rendezvous last year.

You’ve got another chance this weekend as the Wienermobile will be making an appearance at the Highland Walmart (which technically is in San Bernardino).

You’ll be able to “meat” hotdoggers Jess Grillin’ and Tailgating Theresa, who will bring the iconic vehicle (which is one of six traveling the U.S.) to newly remodeled store, 4210 E. Highland Ave.

The pair will be handing out coupons for $1 off Oscar Mayer Select meats and, of course, the whistles, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday (February 9) and Sunday (February 10).
