Oporto out, Fiesty Chicken in

Apparently, Southern California residents had little appetite for the Portuguese-influenced Australian chicken sandwich restaurant, Oporto.

The franchise owner of the three U.S. locations of the Aussie chain — which opened in 2011 — is converting them to Feisty Chicken & Grill.

The refashioned restaurants will open at 11 a.m. Sunday (April 7).

The menu appears to be similar to Oporto, with grilled chicken breast sandwiches, chicken bowls, grilled chicken and chicken wraps, served with signature sauces (Feisty, a creamy chili sauce; Sassy, a sweet and tangy sauce; Zesty, flavored with citrus and herbs; and BBQ-Y, a bold barbeque sauce).

Feisty Chicken & Grill adds beef and veggie burgers to the mix.

Sides include the usual French fries and onion rings, but also sweet potato waffle fries and black beans and rice.

A press release touts the new chain as a healthier alternative, with chicken that has never been processed nor frozen. Its beef burgers are also never frozen.

The three locations will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily:

  • 8220 Haven Ave., Rancho Cucamonga
  • 4295 Concours Drive, Ontario
  • 1311 S. Grand Ave., Glendora
