Hot Dog on a Stick celebrates its founder on his birthday

HotDog on a StickOn this day (June 13) in 1913, Dave Barham was born.

And who is Dave Barham, you might ask?

In 1946, he started Hot Dog on a Stick near the Santa Monica Pier.

From 4 to 8 p.m. today, the company is celebrating what would have been Dave’s 100th birthday with $1 hot dogs (and veggie dogs) on a stick today. (One per customer, please!)

A bit of trivia: When Dave passed away in 1991, he left the company to his employees, making it the nation’s only 100% employee-owned and operated fast food chain.

So, let’s all raise a stick to Dave, battered and fried turkey and dairy products, freshly-squeezed lemonade and those kicky retro-mod uniforms…happy birthday, Dave!
