Summer Soda Tasting returns July 28

Summer Soda Tasting 3It’s time once again for a unique fundraiser that’s worth leaving the Inland Empire for.

It’s the third Summer Soda Tasting at Galco’s Soda Pop Stop in Highland Park.

The event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 28.

Proceeds from the event will again benefit the Friends of the Southwest Museum Coalition, a group whose goal is preserving the Mount Washington landmark and its Native American artifacts.

For those who haven’t seen the You Tube videos or the late Huell Howser’s visit, Galco’s has transformed from a neighborhood grocery store into a one-of-a-kind soda/beer/wine/candy emporium.

They sell about 500 varieties of soda, mainly from mom and pop bottlers, and most made without high fructose corn syrup.

Participants will be able to sample 23 different soda flavors from around the world, including:

Galco’s is also debuting its latest White Rose soda flavor: Cherry. Year-round sales of Cherry White Rose (and the rest of the White Rose flavors) benefit the coalition.

At this year’s event, Galco’s is unveiling its Soda Creation Station where soda lovers can flavor, carbonate, bottle and label their own unique creation.

Thousands of flavor combinations are waiting to be bottled.

The family-friendly event will also feature entertainment by local musicians:

  • Don Preston and Bunk Gardner from the Mothers of Invention
  • 15-year-old Genesee Hall
  • The Fly By Night Blues Band, lead by Greger Walnum
  • The Mele ‘Ohana Ukulele Group

You might even get a chance to chat with (and perhaps get a recommendation from) Galco’s owner, John Nese, the (still-living) King of Pop.

Tickets for adults are just $12 in advance and will be $15 at the door. Tickets for kids 3 to 11 years old are $5. Advance tickets are available by clicking here (95¢ handling fee per order applies).

Galco’s Soda Pop Stop is at 5702 York Blvd., Los Angeles, about a 15-minute walk from the Highland Park Gold Line station.
