Meet Chick-fil-A’s $50 million grilled sandwiches and nuggets

Beginning Monday (April 14), you’ll be able to taste the fruits of the chain’s labor in three new menu items, created partly in response to consumers’ desire for healthier options.

The bulk of the investment was spent working with Garland Grills to create a proprietary grill, which was 11 years in the making. The grill sears chicken on cast-iron grates just like on a backyard grill, only faster.

Here’s a look at the new items:

  • Chick-fil-A grilled chicken sandwich: A marinated, boneless piece of chicken breast meat grilled and served on a toasted multigrain bun with lettuce and tomato and served with a side of honey roasted barbecue sauce. The sandwich has just 320 calories and 5 grams of fat. It’s priced starting at $4.29.
  • Chick-fil-A grilled chicken club sandwich: A deluxe version of the grilled chicken sandwich, made by adding Colby-Jack cheese and applewood smoked bacon. The grilled chicken club has 440 calories and 14 grams of fat. The price starts at $5.49.
  • Chick-fil-A grilled nuggets: First introduced as a kid’s meal entrée in 2012. Chick-fil-A Grilled Nuggets, the reinvented nuggets are now available in eight- and 12-count packs. The smaller order contains 140 calories and 3 fat grams, while the larger one contains 200 calories, 4.5 fat grams. The nuggets are also made without gluten-containing ingredients. Cost starts at $3.79 for the small and $5.59 for the large.

Each grilled chicken breast is freshly marinated with a blend of sea salt, lemon, garlic and herbs, and cooked on the state-of-the-art, proprietary grill.

The chain says the technique creates a tender, juicy filet with just the right amount of smoky flavor.

The new grilled chicken recipe is also available in the chain’s current grilled chicken salads and wrap.
