Just what is “brunchfast”?

Is it too late for breakfast, but too early for brunch?

Or is it brunch, but more breakfasty?

Only Jack in the Box can tell.

Like Taco Bell’s Fourthmeal, Jack in the Box’s Brunchfast is a completely artificial construct designed for one thing: Sell more food.

Co-worker James Williams happened upon a Jack in the Box in Moreno Valley at the end of April which was testing several Brunchfast items.

It turns out it was one of nearly 20 locations in Riverside County testing the items.

But just what is on the Brunchfast menu? A returning Munchie Meal entrée, a couple of new sandwiches, a new plate, and some new sides.

Specifically, the new menu includes:

• Brunch Burger (one of the original Munchie Meal entrées): The burger comes on a croissant and is topped with bacon, cheddar cheese and a fried egg. It’s $3.99 for the burger and $5.79 for the combo.
• Bacon & Chicken Brunch Sandwich: This sandwich comes on an English muffin and includes a fried chicken patty, also topped with bacon, cheddar cheese and a fried egg. The sandwich is $4.49 a la carte and $6.29 for the combo.
• Sourdough Omelet Sandwich: The sandwich includes eggs scrambled with peppers, topped with ham and cheese. Unsurprisingly, it’s on sourdough bread. It’s $3.49 for the sandwich and $5.29 for the combo.
• Southwest Scrambler Plate: Consists of eggs scrambled with peppers, homestyle potatoes, and includes a croissant. It costs $4.59.

The combos include one side and either a regular hot coffee or fountain drink.

Choice of sides include the already-on-the-menu mini pancakes ($1 for 8), and the new homestyle potatoes ($1.99) and orange cranberry muffins (3 for $1.49).

Brunchfast beverages include the previously-available iced coffee ($1.99 for regular, $2.99 for large), and the new blood orange fruit cooler ($1.49 for regular, $2.19 for large).

Will the new items get a wider release? Ask the guy with the round white head and pointy hat.
