Black Angus and Del Taco celebrate golden anniversaries

Del Taco prize packCongratulations to two restaurant chains that turn 50 this year: Del Taco and Black Angus.

Black Angus has kicked off a yearlong celebration with a classic cocktail menu, featuring timeless libations such as Rob Roy, Old Fashioned, Sidecar, Whiskey Sour and Vodka Gimlet.

In addition, the classic cocktails are available for just $5 with the purchase of any entrée on Tuesdays. The steakhouse also will introduce limited time entrées and seasonal desserts throughout the year.

Del Taco, of course, was born in the Inland Empire, and is intertwined with the histories of Baker’s Drive-Thru, Taco Bell, Taco Tia and Naugles.

Tickets still available for Saturday’s Wig Wam Pow Wow with Charles Phoenix

Wig Wam Pow WowOur friend (and Ontario native) Charles Phoenix is returning to the scene of last winter’s doughnut exchange — the iconic Wigwam Motel.

Tomorrow (June 21), he’ll be hosting the Wig Wam Pow Wow, a veritable cornucopia of nostalgic fun, complete with a vintage trailer and classic car show, an old-fashioned weenie roast (featuring Gazzolo’s sausages), a sing-along ’round a bonfire, and of course, one of Charles’ signature retro slide shows.

There are plenty of other surprises in store, including an appearance from the world-famous Bob Baker MarionettesBallusionist.com’s Brian Potivn, and the delightful musical stylings of Mr. Tiny and Mary.

Elephant Bar shuttering about a third of its locations

We knew that the San Bernardino Elephant Bar, 1050 E. Harriman Place, was closing, and have recently learned that it will close tomorrow (June 11). However, that’s not the end of the story. Take the Cake Bake Off is Saturday in San Bernardino

The whole family can satisfy their sweet tooth at Saturday’s Take the Cake Bake Off Saturday (March 15) at San Manuel Stadium, 280 S. E St., in San Bernardino.

Sixty bakers are expected to bake cupcakes, cookies and cake pops for the event, which is being produced by Redlands’ Cakewalk Cake & Candy Supplies.

It will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Domino’s hosting fundraiser for slain employee

You probably read about the San Bernardino Domino’s Pizza worker who was shot and killed last week.

The location where she worked — 1644 E. Highland Ave., #101 — is hosting a fundraiser today (February 19).

The franchise owner will donate 100% of sales to the Nelly Kantun Memorial Fund, and her co-workers are donating their time to make the fundraiser a reality.

Charles Phoenix to host doughnut exchange and holiday party Sunday

Charles Phoenix Doughnut ExchangeOK, so this is the first time we’ve heard of a doughnut exchange happening here in the Inland Empire, or anywhere else, for that matter.

But that’s what’s scheduled to take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday (December 8) at the Wigwam Motel2728 W. Foothill Blvd., San Bernardino.

Such an event could only be the product of the fertile mind of our pal, Ontario native Charles Phoenix, who is hosting the event.

Reservations being taken for BJ’s holiday beer pairing dinners

Reservations are now being taken for a special five-course holiday beer-pairing dinner at BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse locations throughout the Inland Empire.

The dinners will take place beginning next Monday (November 25).

Price is $30 per person, and obviously, you’ve gotta be 21 or older to participate.
