Riverside Restaurant Week concludes on Sunday

Riverside Restaurant Week has expanded beyond last year’s downtown borders.

This year’s crop of participating restaurants run the gamut from Subway to Duane’s Prime Steaks and Seafood in the Mission Inn, with something for every taste and budget.

Specials include percent-off deals, daylong happy hour prices and prix fixe menus.

Blaze Pizza coming to Riverside Plaza, offering free pizza for a day

Blaze PizzaPizza fans! Mark your calendars for next Tuesday (June 17).

That’s the day the new Blaze Pizza will be giving out free pizza.

Yes…free!

It’s the second Inland Empire location for the chain, which opened at the Desert Hills Premium Outlets in Cabazon back in April.

The new pizzeria is in Riverside Plaza, at 3540 Riverside Plaza Drive, Suite 328.

Military personnel get a free sundae at Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour in May

Farrell'sMilitaryThis month, military folks can get a free sundae at Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour.

Through May 31, the restaurant is celebrating National Military Appreciation Month by giving a free Red, White and Blue sundae to all current and former military personnel.

Civilians can purchase the sundae for $7.99 and Farrell’s will donate $1 to A Million Thanks, a nonprofit military support organization.

Farrell’s Inland Empire locations are in Rancho Cucamonga (10742 Foothill Blvd.) and Riverside (3610 Park Sierra Drive).

Blaze Pizza opens in Cabazon

Pasadena-based Blaze Pizza opened its first Inland Empire location yesterday (April 24), in the Desert Hills Premium Outlets in Cabazon, at 48650 Seminole Drive, #1108.

Blaze, founded by Elise and Rick Wetzel (founder of Wetzel’s Pretzels) is a one-price, as-many-toppings-as-you-like pizzeria, with pizzas fast-fired in three minutes.

Riverside Tamale Festival returns April 19

Tamale fans can rejoice in the fact that the Riverside Tamale Festival is back for a second year of entertainment, family fun, contests, and of course, tamales!

The festival will take place once again at White Park, 3936 Chestnut St., in downtown Riverside.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 19.

Farrell’s Quake Shake sales to benefit Red Cross

Hot on the heels of last week’s 5.1 temblor in La Habra and this week’s deadly Chilean earthquake, Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour has created a Rocky Road Quake Shake, made with chocolate ice cream and a marshmallow swirl and topped with whipped cream, almonds and a cherry.

Through Sunday (April 6), the chain is donating 100% of the sales of the $4.99 dessert to the American Red Cross

Celebrate Barbie’s birthday with Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour on Sunday

Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour restaurants are celebrating the iconic doll’s birthday with a daylong celebration on Sunday (March 9).

Guests are invited to join Barbie and Ken from 10 to 11 a.m. at Farrell’s (except Santa Clarita, sorry) for a Barbie-inspired Zoo sundae, filled with 30 scoops of ice cream.

After singing a special birthday song to the guest of honor, the Zoo will be shared with the young guests (12 years old and younger) in attendance.

Second Inland Empire Cupcake Fair is May 4

Inland Empire Cupcake FairThe big question is: Will there be any Star Wars-themed cupcakes?

That’s because, Sunday, May 4, is the date for the second annual Inland Empire Cupcake Fair, at which yours truly will again be a judge.

The event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. (with V.I.P. admission at 11 a.m.) at the newly-revamped Riverside Convention Center, 3637 Fifth St.

The organizers, I.E. Shine On, note that they have learned much from last year’s event and things should run a lot more smoothly this year.

The pizzeria has posted a “Fan Appreciation” coupon for its famous Bunch of Lunch on its Twitter feed.

Coupon-holders will receive the all-you-can-eat meal for just $5.99 (with the purchase of a regular-sized beverage), a savings of $2 off the current price of $7.99.
