That’s right, head to the west parking lot of the California Institution for Men, 14901 S. Central Ave., Chino, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. today (October 15) for a food truck lunch.

The following trucks are scheduled to participate:

Another wave of restaurant closures hits

In a sign that the economy still has some recovery to do, we’ve spotted four local restaurants that have closed in recent weeks.

Chino’s La Crêperie Café, an offshoot of the original in Long Beach’s Belmont Shores, has closed. The location, a former Black Angus, might’ve been just too large for La Crêperie. The original is a much more intimate location. Also, the owners have switched the small chain’s downtown Long Beach location from crepes to Mediterranean and dubbed it La Shish.

Tilted Kilt coming to Chino; last casting call is today

TiltedKiltChinoScottish-themed sports pub Tilted Kilt is coming to Chino.

It’ll be the third Inland Empire location for the chain, joining locations in Palm Desert and Temecula.

The location is holding its last casting call for Kilt Girls and back of house employees today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 8 p.m. today (September 20) at the Ayers Hotel and Suites, 4785 Chino Hills Parkway, Chino Hills.

Chino Pieology Pizzeria opens Wednesday

The Rancho Cucamonga Pieology Pizzeria caused quite a stir when it opened at the beginning of September.

Of course, I think some of that had to do with the fact that they gave away pizzas during training periods in the days leading up to the grand opening.

But that doesn’t diminish the fact that they serve delicious pizza, with as many toppings as you like, for $7.50 or less.

This week, it’s Chino’s turn to experience the Pieology, um, experience.

Pieology lands in the Inland Empire

You want red sauce, pepperoni and mozzarella cheese? Check.

Herb butter, gorgonzola and bacon? OK.

Olive oil, chicken, pineapple, garlic, jalapeños and pesto? Uh…sure.

How about red sauce, herb butter, olive oil, mozzarella, ricotta, parmesan and gorgonzola cheeses, pepperoni, sausage, meatball, chicken, ham, bacon, black olives, mushrooms, red onions, green peppers, artichokes, tomato, pineapple, jalapeños, fresh basil, cilantro, garlic, roasted red peppers, black pepper, pesto and barbecue sauce? Open shop at [desi]gn cakes & cupcakes Thursday night

design cakes and cupcakes open shopOur friends at the Cupcake Wars-winning (and double I.E. Cupcake Fair award-winning) bakery [desi]gn cakes & cupcakes will be hosting another of their delicious open shop events Thursday night (July 11).

The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at their commercial bakery, 12207 Central Ave., Chino.

The bakery will be selling salted caramel, carrot cake and S’mores cupcakes, along with lemon macaroons and chocolate pecan cookies.

[desi]gn cakes & cupcakes makes return to Cupcake Wars

It’s been a good week for our friends at [desi]gn cakes & cupcakes.

At Sunday’s (March 17) I.E. Cupcake Fair, the bakery took top honors in the professional division in both Best Overall for its Salted Caramel cupcake and Most Unique Ingredient for its Apple Bacon Harvest cupcake.

And this Sunday (March 24), the Food Network will air its return to Cupcake Wars.

Chino Brew & Chew coming March 24

Tickets are available now for the Chino Brew & Chew, which will bring together breweries and food trucks from the Inland Empire and beyond in a fundraiser for Soroptimist International of the Chino Valley.

The event will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. (with VIP admission at noon) Sunday, March 24, at the Chino Fairgrounds, 5410 Edison Ave.

Happy first anniversary to I & I Brewing!

Happy first anniversary to the fine folks over at the best little brewhouse in Chino, I & I Brewing.

The brewery opened its doors the first weekend of 2012.

Some of this weekend’s celebration are being kept secret, but details are slowly being revealed.

The brewery will be open a little early — at noon — on Saturday (January 5), the Garlic Scapes truck will be serving lunch and the Vizzi Truck will be serving dinner beginning at 5 p.m. A special beer will be tapped.

The first 200 guests will get an anniversary edition glass when they purchase a large taste.
