Claremont Restaurant Week begins tomorrow

Claremont Restaurant WeekWednesday evening was the big preview for Claremont Restaurant Week, and if the samples served during the kickoff is any indication, this is going to be one great culinary adventure!

Nearly two dozen restaurants have great prix fixe menus lined up for the third iteration of the event, which starts tomorrow (July 10) and runs through July 19.

Even restaurants beyond Claremont — including Pappas Artisanal in La Verne and Upland’s Pine Haven Cafe and Nuno’s Bistro & Bar — are getting involved.

Fun Belly offers walking food tours of Claremont

Fun Belly Food Tours has recently begun walking food tours of Claremont.

Public tours ($69) take place at 2 p.m. Saturdays and last three hours.

Each tour includes tasting stops at at least six eateries along the route. Private tours are also available for groups of six or more.

Fun Belly also offers tours of Eagle Rock and Old Town Pasadena.

Claremont Pie Festival returns Saturday

Saturday (March 14) is Pi Day, and the city of Claremont is again celebrating the day with the Claremont Pie Festival.

The event features pie baking and eating contests, pie making demos, pie tastings, a vintage apron exhibit, a pie recipe card hunt, kids’ apron decorating and an apron parade, along with classic cars, live music and vendor booths.

The festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Village.

Headquarters for the festival is the I Like Pie Bake Shop, 175 N. Indian Hill Blvd., naturally.

Scotch Master coming to Vom Fass in Claremont

In the past, we’ve mentioned the popular (and usually sold-out) Scotch whisky classes at Vom Fass in Claremont.

Well, next month the shop is upping the ante.

Scotch Master Stewart Laing will be visiting from Glasgow, Scotland, and spending two days at the shop conducting Scotch seminars and a teaching a Scotch class.

Laing has almost 50 years experience in the whisky business and recently started his own company — Hunter Laing & Co. Ltd. — with his two sons.

Head to Claremont’s Vom Fass today for whisky and waffles

Our friends at the Claremont Vom Fass are celebrating Father’s Day with a special treat.

The gourmet shop will be serving bite-sized portions of seared apricot waffles à la mode with whiskey cream, followed by a whisky tasting.

The event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. today (June 15) at the shop, 101 N. Indian Hill Blvd., Suite C2-100.

Wine, cheese and chocolate event returns to Claremont Vom Fass in April

Claremont’s Vom Fass has posted its schedule for April, and it includes its popular wine, cheese and chocolate pairing event, as well as a new wine event.

The wine, cheese and chocolate pairing event takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 24.

The evening includes a collection of wines presented by Regal Wines, paired with an assortment of cheeses from Claremont’s Cheese Cave and delicious handmade chocolates from the Chocolate Angel.
