The Mexico Cafe and the San Bernardino Police Officers Association is hosting a fundraiser at the restaurant today (December 8) for San Bernardino Police Officer Gabe Garcia, who is recovering after being shot back in August.

All tips and donations will be given to his family to help with his rehabilitation.

International Tamale Festival returns to Indio this weekend

It’s the first weekend in December, and that means it’s time for the Indio International Tamale Festival!

The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today (December 6) and Sunday (December 7). It takes place in downtown Indio, between Highway 111 and Indio Boulevard, along Miles Avenue, Towne Street, Smurr Street and Requa Avenue.

Del Taco introduces Fresca Bowls

Del Taco Fresca BowlsDel Taco recently introduced three Fresca Bowls, each priced at $4.

The Pollo Asada Grilled Chicken Bowl includes lime rice, black beans, grilled chicken, pico de gallo salsa, onions and cilantro.

The Fire-Roasted Veggie Bowl includes lime rice, black beans, green chile sauce, pico de gallo salsa, onions, cilantro and fire-roasted corn, red and green bell peppers and poblano peppers.

Taco Shack hosting fundraiser this month for Redlands Police Department’s K-9s

Redlands’ Taco Shack, 510 E. State St., is hosting a fundraiser for the Redlands Police Department’s narcotics K-9 unit beginning Monday (August 11) and ending August 30.

As part of the fundraiser, guests can make a donation and have their names placed on the walls of the restaurant.

The fundraiser will culminate with an event beginning at noon on August 30, during which Police Chief Mark A. Garcia will volunteer in a demonstration as the department’s patrol dog “takes a bite out of crime.”

Black Angus and Del Taco celebrate golden anniversaries

Del Taco prize packCongratulations to two restaurant chains that turn 50 this year: Del Taco and Black Angus.

Black Angus has kicked off a yearlong celebration with a classic cocktail menu, featuring timeless libations such as Rob Roy, Old Fashioned, Sidecar, Whiskey Sour and Vodka Gimlet.

In addition, the classic cocktails are available for just $5 with the purchase of any entrée on Tuesdays. The steakhouse also will introduce limited time entrées and seasonal desserts throughout the year.

Del Taco, of course, was born in the Inland Empire, and is intertwined with the histories of Baker’s Drive-Thru, Taco Bell, Taco Tia and Naugles.

Riverside Tamale Festival returns April 19

Tamale fans can rejoice in the fact that the Riverside Tamale Festival is back for a second year of entertainment, family fun, contests, and of course, tamales!

The festival will take place once again at White Park, 3936 Chestnut St., in downtown Riverside.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 19.

Although National Chip and Dip Day is Sunday (March 23), Rubio’s Chip and Dip Day is being celebrated on Friday (March 21).

At participating locations, guests will be able to purchase an order of guacamole and chips for just $1 on that day. No coupon is needed, but as per usual, the offer can’t be combined with other discounts.

Taco Bell to roll out breakfast nationwide in March

The big news this week is that Taco Bell is launching its new breakfast menu nationwide in March.

The Mexican fast food chain, already popular with night owls, is looking to capture the early birds as well.

New items include the Waffle Taco (imagine a folded version of a Jack in the Box waffle sandwich), a breakfast burrito and an A.M. grilled taco.
