Rancho Cucamonga reporter (and Dine 909 contributor) Wendy Leung has written about the lengthy transformation of the former West Elm at Victoria Gardens into Toby Keith's I This Bar & Grill.

Her story details some of the reasons for the delays in the restaurant/bar's opening, originally scheduled for January 2011, now pegged for mid-March.

The story will appear in tomorrow's Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.

Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour: Food, fun...lifesaving techniques

A big Dine 909 shout out goes to Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour server Michael Boles!

Fontana resident Ron Herman had gone to the newly-opened restaurant in Rancho Cucamonga to celebrate his 60th birthday.

Unfortunately, just after his food arrived, Herman suffered a seizure and stopped breathing.

Boles, a former U.S. Navy medic, heard a commotion in the restaurant.

Boles rushed over to Herman and (assisted by an off-duty paramedic) performed CPR, saving Herman's life.

Rancho Cucamonga reporter (and Dine 909 contributor) Wendy Leung captured the scene during a recent reunion between Boles and Herman.

You can read her report here.

I This Bar & Grill to finally open?

Well, according to this post from Rancho Cucamonga reporter (and Dine 909 contributor) Wendy Leung, the long-gestating Victoria Gardens restaurant/bar will finally open mid-March...or so.

Wendy sent this tweet earlier today:

This will probably be small consolation to those folks who were hired in a job fair way back at the beginning of December.

Comings, goings in Rancho Cucamonga

With all the restaurants coming and going in Rancho Cucamonga, it's hard to keep track. Good thing it's not just "going," there are businesses coming, too.

First the sad news. Joey's BBQ on Foothill Boulevard closed last week. Its Upland, Pomona and Chino locations are unaffected. Robin's Dono, a Japanese restaurant on Fourth Street across from Ontario Mills, has also closed.

Here's some good news. Alberto's will take over Joey's BBQ spot. Alberto's is a chain of taquerias with more than 40 locations in Southern California. Cuban restaurant Flamingo Palms is leaving its tiny Archibald Avenue location and moving to the more prominent Fourth Street, in a space where Camille's used to be. Flamingo Palms will be on Archibald for another month. It was mentioned in this space recently that Handel's, the popular ice-cream joint in Upland, is opening another shop on Haven Avenue at the Vons center near the 210 Freeway. Handel's is expected to open mid-February or March. Finally Felipe's on Archibald and Foothill has closed. Stevie Dee's Diner is expected to take over.

Am I missing anything?

Handel's coming to Rancho Cucamonga

The Handel's Ice Cream empire is growing...and getting dangerously close to home!

There's a "coming soon" sign posted at 6403 Haven Ave. (just north of SR-210) in Rancho Cucamonga.

The new location takes up two storefronts, so I'm thinking there might be room for indoor seating, as opposed to the Upland location, which is all outdoor seating.

For those of you who have never experienced Handel's, all you really need to know is that it's a Dine 909 favorite.

This will be the third California location for the Ohio-based Handel's. There's also a location in Redondo Beach.

Spend $50, pay $25 at Fleming's

You know those other guys.

They'll give you a $5 bonus gift card when you purchase a $25 gift card. But remember to use that bonus gift card before it expires...at the end of January.

Or even worse, they'll make you spend $50 before you see any kind of bonus.

Not Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar. Oh, no.

Reserve and dine at Fleming's before December 30, spend $50 and they'll knock $25 off your bill.

Wow.

And if you bring the whole crew and the bill comes to more than $150, you'll also get a bonus $25 gift card to spend in the first three months in 2012. Spend over $300 and get a bonus $50 gift card.

Changes to Ra Pour menu
