It's been a while since Panda Express gave anything away.

Last chance for the next Grub Club

Today (November 3) is your last chance to get in on the next Let's Dine Out Show's Grub Club, which will take place at a long-time San Bernardino favorite, Lotus Garden.

Registration will close tonight.

The dinner, which will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday (November 5), will be a traditional Chinese banquet service.

The banquet will include four appetizers, eight entrées, a dessert...and a partridge in a pear tree!

Oh wait...the partridge thing is next month.

The cost of the dinner is $25, which includes the banquet, tax, tip and a non-alcoholic beverage.

Lotus Garden is at 111 E. Hospitality Lane in San Bernardino.
I wish I'd seen this deal earlier in the week, but you've still got a couple of days left to take advantage.

P.F. Chang's has posted a coupon for a free street fare or dim sum item from its Triple Happiness Happy Hours menu (with food purchase).

Trouble is, the coupon expires Sunday (August 21).

P.F. Chang's happy hour runs from 3 to 6 p.m. daily and is available in the bar or in the dining room.

Click here to view and print the coupon, which is not good on Chang's lettuce wraps.

P.F. Chang's has locations in the Inland Empire in Rancho Cucamonga, Chino Hills, Riverside and Temecula.
Panda Express, which periodically issues coupons good for free entrées, is at it again.

However, this time you'll need to make a purchase to get an order of Garlic Lovers Chicken Breast.

The offer is good today (July 13) only. Click here for the coupon.

Panda Express restaurants can be found throughout the Inland Empire.

Canton Bistro shuttered

After a delicious Italian meal at Redlands' Isabella's Ristorante, the Dine 909 crew decided to swing by the newly-opened Five Guys Burgers and Fries to see if the line was out the door.

Well, it was busy, but no huge line.

Then we decided to swing by Canton Bistro, which is in the same shopping center.

The Asian fusion restaurant had, in the past few months, gone from serving lunch and dinner to just serving dinner to just being open as a nightclub.

Well, its fortunes have fallen further still.

We found a red "illegal to enter" sign posted on the inside of the front doors.

In this recession, restaurants seem to be having a particularly hard time, but I'm sure it didn't help that another Asian restaurant opened its doors just across the parking lot last year.

Wok N' Grill's big Wednesday deal

I've written about what is probably the best deal on Chinese food on Tuesday, with Magic Wok's $2 single-entrée bowl deal.

But what do you do the rest of the week?

Recently-opened Wok N' Grill, 905 N. Waterman Ave., San Bernardino, has your answer on Wednesdays, at least.

They're offering the same deal as Magic Wok, only a penny cheaper -- a single-entrée bowl is $1.99 on Wednesdays.

While not quite the spectacle that Magic Wok was, a short line queued up the entire time I was there last night.
Panda Restaurant Group, Inc., which operates both Panda Inn and Panda Express here in the Inland Empire, is among the many restaurant chains (and local restaurants) donating to the relief effort in Japan.

Through the end of March, Panda Express, Panda Inn, and the non-I.E. Hibachi-San restaurant locations across the country will have in-store drop-boxes allowing guests to make contributions of any amount.

All guest-donated proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross.

Also, contributions by the company's 18,000 employees will be donated to the compassion relief organization, Tzu Chi Foundation, which is currently providing two hot meals per day in Oarai Town to the thousands of displaced people living in shelters.

The best part? Panda will match 100% of the proceeds collected at Panda Express, Panda Inn, Hibachi-San locations and by associates nationwide.

Panda Express locations can be found throughout the Inland Empire. You'll find Panda Inn at 3223 E. Centrelake Drive in Ontario.

Who wants free shrimp?

As they've done in the past, Panda Express is celebrating the introduction of a new entrée by giving it away.

The Chinese fast food restaurant is giving away a single serving of Golden Treasure Shrimp today (March 9).

All you need is this coupon.

The new entrée consists of tempura shrimp, with red and green bell peppers in a zesty citrus sauce. It debuted March 2.

Panda Express can be found throughout the Inland Empire.

Iron Chef, Roberto's close up shop

In last week's Dine 909 column, I mentioned that long-time Highland restaurant Roberto's Pizza and Italian Dining, 3669 Highland Ave., is "closed until further notice." A reader had emailed us of the closure.

Following up on another email, from reader Shawn, I went by the Iron Chef Cafe, 4275 E. Concours Drive., #30, Ontario, this week to discover it too, has closed.

The reader noted that they began a "kitchen remodel" back in October and never re-opened.

A red do-not-enter sign was displayed in the front door.

The Chinese/Japanese restaurant opened at the end of 2008.
