First bites: Euro Grill

I've been wanting to try Euro Grill in Redlands for a while now.

Monday I finally got the chance.

They specialize in pizzas, pasta and Mediterranean dishes: falafel, gyros, kabobs, shawarma and the like.

Befitting the name of the restaurant, their pizzas are named for European cities and their pastas are mostly named for European countries.

For my first visit, I decided to try try the "Spain" pasta.

First bites: Phoenicia

Spurred on by a "Grand Opening" ad (although I think they've been open a while) in The Sun, I wanted to check out Phoenicia, which has two locations in Redlands.

So, after going to hear Dustin Lance Black speak at the University of Redlands, a friend and I went over to the Orange Street location (near Trader Joe's).

Phoenicia bills itself as having Greek and Lebanese cuisine. The ad mentioned a falafel sandwich combo ($5.95), which is what I ordered.

My friend ordered one of the specials, the lamb plate ($8.95).

The Orange Streeet location is a decently-sized restaurant, and a fairly well-appointed for a place where you order at a counter and the food is brought to your table.

Upland reviews, times two

It's Friday, and you know what that means...

Elaine Lehman stayed close to home base this week and went to Giuseppe's on Euclid in Upland.

Giuseppe's is unique in that they offer both Italian and Persian cuisines.

Elaine went out of her sphere of familiarity and opted for Persian.

She ordered the Koobideh kabob special and liked it.

So next time you're in the mood for a little hummus with your ravioli, you know where to go.

Click here to read more about Elaine's experience at Giuseppe's.

Allan Borgen mixes things up this week and discusses the breakfast items available at Buckboard Barbecue and Grill, also in Upland, on Foothill Boulevard.

I've heard Allan talk about Buckboard before, and if I remember correctly, he's even broadcast his radio show from there.

So it's no surprise that he enjoyed their breakfast offerings, giving them them four of five stars.

If you're thinking of heading over there to check out their breakfasts for yourself, you might just want to click here first.
