Cheers to learning at Fairplex on Saturday

Foodies won’t want to miss Saturday’s (June 22) Cheers event at Fairplex in Pomona.

Billed as “L.A.’s wine, spirits, beer and food festival,” the event showcases the award-winning wines, spirits, beers and olive oils of the Los Angeles International Competitions.

More importantly, it’s a fundraiser for educational programs at the Learning Centers at Fairplex, which offers educational programs for students of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Local brewers debut at Temecula balloon and wine festival

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival, and organizers are mixing things up a bit by including several of the valley’s breweries in the festivities.

Aftershock Brewing, Black Market Brewing Co., Brew-Ligion, Ironfire Brewing Company, Refuge Brewery and Wiens Brewing will be sampling and pouring at this year’s event.

The festival continues from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. tomorrow (June 1) and 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday (June 2) at Lake Skinner Recreation Area, 37701 Warren Road, Winchester.

Inka Trails wine pairing event is Wednesday

Peruvian restaurant Inka Trails is hosting a special wine pairing event from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday (April 24) at the restaurant, 1077 W. Foothill Blvd., Claremont.

The event includes a three-course dinner, paired with exclusive wines from Peru and Argentina, and live music.

Cost is $35 (plus tax) in advance and $40 the day of the event.

You’re in luck!

There are still a few spots left for tomorrow evening’s (November 13) Holiday Wine and Dessert Pairing class at Rapour Restaurant & Lounge.

Really, you don’t want to suffer the shame and humiliation of having served a Riesling with your fruitcake…again!

Rapour’s Pastry Chef, Jessica Simpson, and wine expert, Maggie Hope, will be your guides to help you discover which wines to pair with dessert flavors and spices that will help make your holiday events a success.

Over the course of the class, which will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m., you’ll sample three wines and three gourmet desserts. Cost for the class is $30 per person.

Big Bear Fall Wine Walk happening tomorrow

The Fall Wine Walk, sponsored by the Big Bear Lake Village Business Association, will take place from 3:30 to 7 p.m. tomorrow (September 15) in the Village of Big Bear Lake.

Participants can stroll through village shops while sampling fine wines and enjoying light hors d’uvre.

It appears that $30 advance tickets are still available here. Tickets will be $35 at the door, if available.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Doves of Big Bear Valley and Mountain Strings of Big Bear.

The event will be followed by a raffle prize drawing for event attendees.

Guest check-in begins at 2:30 p.m. at the Christmas tree lot on the corner of Pine Knot Avenue and Village Drive.

Today (July 27…well, for the next 45 minutes, anyway) and tomorrow (July 28), the winery will offer:

  • 20% off the purchase of any full batch of wine

Fun Decanted at Fairplex tonight

The second annual Fun Decanted will happen from 7 to 11 p.m. tonight (June 23) at the Wine and Spirits Marketplace Fairplex in Pomona.

The event marks the public unveiling and tasting of the award-winning wines, spirits and beers of the Los Angeles International Wine and Spirits Competition.

Tickets are $50, which includes a $10 food truck voucher, and are available at the door.

The event is a fundraiser for the Learning Centers at Fairplex.

Wine, beer, music in Redlands this afternoon

The Wine, Beer and Music Festival will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. today (June 23) at Ed Hales Park at the corner of Fifth and State streets in downtown Redlands.

The event will include wine and beer tastings from Paxton’s Cellar, State Street Winery, The Dregs, Hangar 24, Weins Family Cellars, Time in a Bottle and Monte de Oro Winery, along with hors d’oeuvres from The Farm, Wild Rocket, Hundehaus and Time in a Bottle.

Tickets ($20) are limited and include wine tasting, a wine glass, light refreshments and entertainment.

They are available at Paxton’s Cellar, State Street Winery, The Dregs, Time in a Bottle or the city’s Development Services Office, 210 E. Citrus Ave.

Grape Expectations wine tasting fundraiser at Graber Olive House

The animal advocates over at Helping Out Pets Everyday are having a wine tasting fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. April 30 at Graber Olive House in Ontario.

The event — Grape Expectations, An Experience in Wine Tasting — includes hors d’uvre, Graber Olives, dessert, coffee, music and a tour of the historic Graber Olive House, along with the wine tasting.

The hors d’uvre, from Pine Haven Catering of Upland, will include overstuffed mushrooms with bacon and three cheeses; roasted and seasoned new potatoes; spring rolls with tangy tangerine dipping sauce; warm artichoke dip with blue corn tortilla chips; and chilled Brussels sprouts with fresh herbs.

Attendees will be given a bottle of wine to take home.

Tickets to the fundraiser are $35 per person and are available at Graber Olive House, 315 East Fourth Street in Ontario, or from HOPE.

Take a walk on the wine side

In one of the more unique fundraisers I’ve seen in a while, the Big Bear Lake Village Business Association will be hosting its second Wine Walk on from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday (July 24) in the downtown Big Bear Lake Village shopping district.

The event combines shopping and wine tasting as you stumble wander from store to store. Two great things that, um, go great together?

The association is expecting up to 500 locals and visitors to attend the fundraiser.
