Dodgers 7, Astros 6

This one could have been really, really bad after the boys blew a 6-1 lead on the same day they learned Furcal probably isn't coming back next week. As it turned out, it could be really, really good if they can use it as a springboard. Jeff Kent delivered off Wesley Wright in the 11th, Takashi Saito got it done in the bottom half, and that was that. Clayton Kershaw left in position to finally get his first big-league win, but it wasn't to be. But the important thing was that the Dodgers won, improving to 37-44, and moved within 2 1/2 of the Snakes. With or without Furcal, this thing is a long, long way from being over. And the news from Vegas wasn't all bad. Nomar went 2 for 3 and Andruw, who played CF tonight, went 3 for 3 against Salt Lake.

Nomar Ming Vase has played two games and not yet been injured. If that kind of luck is around, I'd better buy a lotto ticket and bet the exacta at Santa Anita (or wherever they're running).

Kershaw is Kersed with regard to that first professional win, but it is coming soon.

I see it takes eleven innings for the Old Man to get his bat warmed up, but kudos to Grumpy - he brought down the hammer.
