Torre's lineup switcheroo obviously worked. Matt Kemp, the new leadoff guy, drew a walk, had two hits and scored a run. Russell Martin, the new No. 2 guy, had two hits, one of them a double, drew two walks and scored a run. Manny Ramirez, who was supposed to benefit from having Andre Ethier hitting behind him, apparently did, doubling in two runs in the first. Nomar and Blake DeWitt each hit three-run HRs. Oh, and the Snakes lost. Let the handwringing come to crashing halt. The Dodgers are 82-75, their lead is a safe three games and their magic number is three, with five to go. Are you starting to smell it yet?
Yeah, for whatever reason, Kemp seems to thrive in the lead-off role.
All his tools say he would be a bad lead-off man, but his numbers are solid from that spot.
Actually, looking at it now, Kemp is at his best when he bats 1st or 2nd.

It's fear! Fear of being let down and crushed like so many times before. This team has taken us all on a thrill ride alright. Just hope it doesn't run off track in SF this weekend.
Guess I love the new lineup. The lineup is classic Joe - but it works, and anything that will wake this team up and keep it going at least one more week, works for me!
It smells like mediocrity to me. It's hard to see this team going very far on paper and should they make NL champions, they'll melt against a real team that the AL will offer. Still, better first then last.
