Dodgers 8, Padres 4
Juan Pierre's injury doesn't appear to be serious, but we won't know for sure until tomorrow. It was a lower-back issue, apparently a spasm, that he had never experienced before. ... Takashi Saito was moved to the 60-day DL after the game to clear a 40-man roster spot for A.J. Ellis, whose contract was, as you read on this blog earlier tonight, purchased from Las Vegas. But Saito had been on the 15-day since July 18 (retro to July 13), so he'll be eligible to be activated a week from Thursday, which is an off-day. That potentially could mean he is ready to pitch on Sept. 12 at Colorado, putting him right on track for what Joe Torre told us earlier today that the plan for Saito would be over the next few days. ... Someone asked Clayton Kershaw after the game what he did during his three-night stay in Las Vegas, when he was ``optioned'' there to clear a roster spot in between major-league starts. He said he didn't do much. ``I'm only 20,'' he said, ``so I didn't do too much.'' ... Dodgers go to 69-70 and move within 1 1/2 of the Snakes.

4-0 post Kent clubhouse cancer...I was at the game tonight and it was great. The only bad part was Joe Torre. First, running Kershaw out there for the 8th when he should have put MacDonald in to see what he's got but instead Joe went with Beimel and Troncoso. Why? I really have no clue. It could have been worse though. He could have used Proctor but then again he didn't use Proctor so maybe that means he's more inclined the use him in close games...scary. Also, Juan Pierre shouldn't start ever again. How predictable was his 0-4 tonight? I know Bison needed a day off but that's what Thursday is for. If Kemp was a catcher it would be different but he's not so he should start every game especially when we are in the middle of a division race. Every game is important now so we have to play our best 8 guys every night.
