The reason for Ethier's absence
Turns out there is a very legitimate reason for his not being in the lineup tonight. He has left the team to be with his wife, who is giving birth (or has already given birth) to the couple's first child. The club had been expecting him to leave for a couple of days whenever the time came. For some reason, Andre told club officials that all they could say was that he had left the team for personal reasons. Not sure I understand that one. I have always believed the single greatest gift we're ever given in this lifetime in becoming parents. Some people who are in the public eye like to keep their personal lives as private as possible, and that's completely understandable. But to say a guy left the team for personal reasons carries a lot more intrigue than just saying a guy left because his wife was going into labor. Whatever.
Tony, be honest. When you asked Joe about James McDonald for your article he answered "Who?" right?
I don't know what Joe is waiting for. Since McDonald has been called up there have been a handful of chances to get him some work in. Joe just didn't know he was on the team. It's not the first time that's happened. He was asked about Mike Easler earlier in the year and Torre responded with a "Who?" as well. It's ok Joe. I'm sure its hard to keep track of 40 names when you keep falling asleep in the dugout.
Whatever. It's the greatest word in the English language since it can be used anything from the meaning of life to the nature of mankind. BTW, Congrats, Andre for your personal reason (or reasons if they were twins).
