AJC confirms Braves’ agreement with Furcal

David O’Brien, who covers the Braves for the Atlanta Journal Consititution, cites two unnamed sources who confirm the deal. It’s still contingent on Raffy passing a physical.

This is shaping up to be a disasterous offseason. Furcal and Lowe gone. Ned will now probably trade for Jack Wilson or sign Orlando Cabrera. Great.

Red Sox probably land Teixeira, leaving the Yankees and Angels to battle over Manny.

Oh, and we still have a rotation consisting of a decent No. 3/4 in Kuroda, a guy with a broken leg, and a rookie. Saito is gone. Ugh.

    OTOH, Dylan Hernandez reports this:

Reports that Rafael Furcal has decided to sign with the Atlanta Braves are premature, his agent Paul Kinzer said. “It’s not done yet, but if he chose right now, it would be Atlanta,” Kinzer said this morning at 9:52 a.m. Pacific time. ”

Nonetheless, if I had to guess, Atlanta’s making an offer that Frank and Ned won’t make. And three guaranteed years for Furcal could easily be a mistake.

Who is the main competition for Cabrera? As far as Wilson, I don’t see the Dodgers going for him unless the Pirates drop their demands.

As TJ wrote today in the LA Times, the McCourts can’t be trusted. They give 3 yrs. to a 35 yr old average 3rd baseman but won’t move on Furcal. The starting rotation is in shambles with no ace, or # 2 guy. Dodgers are on the cheap for players. Remember we must fund McCourts twin Malibu estates first, that’s policy.
