Dodgers' sights still set on Randy Wolf
All indications are that Jon Garland is still out of their price range. More importantly, all indications are that Randy Wolf is still WITHIN their price range. Thanks to Brooklyn Dodger for posting that foxsports.com link to my earlier post. Turns out Randy never turned down a three-year, $29.5 million offer from the Astros, but that the offer was actually pulled by the Astros for financial reasons, apparently just before the lefty was about to accept it. Sounds to me like this is the guy the Dodgers are going to end up with, and I'm guessing it's going to heat up in the next few days.
How can we be out of Garland's price range when we are at 70 mil payroll right now? I guess this explains why were not after Sheets...
Wolf ?? Been there, done that, and got the tee shirt..recall the left sleeve wearing out mid-season. Lets stop being cheap and sign Manny and Garland !!
The reason they're not going after Sheets is because of how injury prone he is you know whats happened in the past with pitchers like these.
seems to me the dodgers need some innings eaters.
billingsley consistently gives 5 maybe six.
kershaw the same.
kuroda? depends on which kuroda shows up.
schmidt? doesn't deserve an answer.
#5? whoever it is, a #5 is rarely an innings eater and if he was, he wouldn't be a #5.
the 09 bullpen will wear out by the all-star game and this team will tank in the 2nd half due to a weakened bullpen.

garland only threw 7 more innings in 08 than wolf.

on another pitching note, dodgers won't sign sheets as they don't want to give up the first round draft choice (and i don't blame them).
if tommy had his druthers, sheets would be signed already.
i live in milwaukee -- sheets gets hangnails that lead to infections in his big toe that lead to spasms in muscles no other pitcher even has.
ole ben has never won more than 13 games in a season.
he was however consistently a 200+ innings guy early on in his career (with bad teams).
