Dodgers 5, Padres 4

Chad Billingsley was solid, walking the first batter of the game but retiring the next six in order to finish off two shutout innings. Shawn Estes followed, and in the same ballpark where he got rocked for seven runs (five earned) in 1 1/3 innings on Friday, he pitched two shutout innings, allowing three hits with no walks. Mitch Jones homered for the third time in his past four games (he had a double in the other games). He also homered in yesterday’s B game, but that one didn’t count. Blake DeWitt went 2 for 3 with a double, a two-run homer and two runs scored. He also played six innings at SS and got a couple more balls hit his way today than he did on Saturday. Overall, he was fine, but he did turn a double play into a single play by bobbling the ball. Torre said after the game he just got in too big of a hurry to turn two. Joe remained non-committal on whether DeWitt could get enough at-bats as a utility guy to justify keeping him in the majors. Dodgers improve to 3-3. Versus the Giants tomorrow.

    Hey Tony,

Why did the Dodgers not renew their contract with the 51′s and move to the Isotopes? I know that the Dodgers used to work with them back in the day when they were the Dukes, but what’s with the move this season?

    Thanks!

“Las Vegas is for guy who cheat on their wives like Derek Lowe and not for a solid, family-oriented organization like the Dodgers”, I thought I heard Jamie McCourt say. ;)

  • BruinFBBB

What’s the over/under of guys on the 25 man roster that cheat on their wives? 10? 15? No reason to single out Derek except that he was silly enough to get caught publicly…

    Tony,

I just heard on 710 ESPN that Enrique Roja’s from ESPN Deportes have found a “common ground” in their negotiations??? Any news on your side on this? I don’t know what that exactly means, but hopefully some good news!!

  • El Lay Dave

    1. Isn’t the exception enough?
    2. It’s just a cheap joke – but Lowe didn’t seem to get along well with the McCourts like, say, Jeff Kent.

  • El Lay Dave

In all seriousness, I thought I read that the Dodgers found the Vegas facilities somewhat less than desirable. Cashman Field (?) is purportedly a bit old and ragged for an AAA stadium (never been there.)

Also, Manny is on a plane from Florida to LA to take his physical and sign his contract then report to the Dodgers ST facility..This sounds like pretty info!

    Bruin,

Were you hearing 710 ESPN too with Denhold & Long or did you find it on the web?

  • krpballer

Now ESPN is reporting they are trying to confirm the report…

  • BruinFBBB

    Saw it on the web…

    Not sure it’s true….from http://www.mlbrumors.com

8:16pm: MLBTR just received this e-mail from Senior Editor of Yahoo! Sports, Steve Henson:

Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports just spoke to Scott Boras and a Dodger front-office official. Both said no agreement has been reached. Ned Colletti and Boras did speak today, but no real progress was made.
